ESG Reporting Framework for energy technology company
sector - energy/ Oil & gas
-
The challenge
A global energy company sought to strengthen its sustainability reporting to better reflect its operational impact and evolving role in the energy transition. Amid shifting regulations and rising stakeholder expectations, the business faced three core challenges: an unclear ESG positioning relative to industry peers, a complex regulatory landscape including CSRD and double materiality requirements and the need for clearer, more strategic stakeholder engagement.
-
Our approach
We partnered with the business to develop a comprehensive ESG strategy that would guide reporting, shape communications and support long-term sustainability goals. This included benchmarking and data analysis to assess ESG positioning, non-financial reporting advisory aligned with GRI, CSRD and the UN SDGs and a stakeholder engagement strategy informed by both qualitative and quantitative insights.
-
Our recommendations
To build on progress and embed ESG more deeply, we recommended formalising governance, integrating ESG into core planning, refining double materiality assessments and strengthening data infrastructure. Continued stakeholder engagement, performance tracking against global frameworks and internal capability-building to ensure the strategy remains credible, compliant and aligned with long-term business goals.
“By embedding sustainability into core planning, we’ve laid the foundation for credible, compliant reporting. Strengthening our stakeholder engagement has not only improved transparency, it’s positioned us to lead with purpose in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.”
